The History of the Draught
The Irish Draught horse has been an integral part of the Irish Cultural and social history since antiquity.  The draught evolved under the influence of the Irish soil and climate.  The breed descended from the Hobby consisting of native strains with an admixture of Spanish blood.  Irish families working and living beside the horse liked its modest, cooperative and unassuming nature.  The official breed standard calls for a type and character.  The Irish Horse is an active, short-shinned powerful horse with substance and quality.  He has an exceptionally strong and sound constitution and is known for his intelligent and gentle nature and good sense.
